Juventus ha confirmed their center-back, Daniele Rugani has tested positive for coronavirus.

Juventus in a statement confirmed Rugani has tested positive for the virus although he is currently not showing signs of any COVID-19 symptoms.

The 25-year-old Rugani has made seven appearances in all competitions for Juventus this season. He was named a substitute during Juventus’ last game over Inter Milan on March 8th which took place behind closed doors.

A statement from the club read, “The footballer Daniele Rugani has tested positive for Coronavirus-COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic.”

“Juventus Football Club is currently activating all the isolation procedures required by law including the census of those who have had contact with him.”

Rugani is believed to be the first athlete in Italy’s top division to test positive.

All Italian sports have been suspended until 3rd April. However, the Champions League and Europa League matches are under the jurisdiction of UEFA.

In this case, Juventus is due to host Lyon in their Champions League return fixture behind closed doors in Turin next Tuesday.

In the Champions League, Barcelona is due to host Napoli next Wednesday as Juventus continues to train ahead of their planned tie.

On Wednesday, the Italian government announced more measure including the closure of all shops except food stores and pharmacies.

Italy has more than 12,000 confirmed cases and a death toll of 827.

The Italian Football Federation said after a meeting on Tuesday that the Serie A season may not finish because of the coronavirus outbreak.
