The Arsenal striker, Pierre Aubameyang concluded last season as the joint top-scorer in the Premier League. This he did with a total of 22 goals. His contract in Arsenal is set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 season. With that in mind, the Gabon president urged the striker to leave Arsenal and search for a “more ambitious club.”

Pierre Alain Mounguengui being the Gabon president, said, “right now, he is at Arsenal and he has won nothing here. So, it’s a collective failing.”

“I don’t want to say that Arsenal isn’t ambitious. But the club doesn’t have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned.”

Last month, the team’s manager, Mikel Arteta announced he needs to keep Aubameyang “under any circumstances.” He as well added that the club needs to discuss a new deal before the end of this season.

The Gabon international striker has scored 20 goals in all competitions for his side, Arsenal in 2019/20. He is, therefore, a reported target for clubs including Barcelona and Inter Milan.

“If Pierre could secure a contract with a more ambitious club, he’d definitely find his place there.” Added Mounguengui.

“All Gabonese people say Aubameyang at this level, where he can now end his career at a major club and, above all, beyond individual trophies, to bring home a major competition.”
