Dean Henderson is on loan at Sheffield United until the end of June this year. With the Premier League season set to run past that date, will United extend his deal at a club battling for a European spot too?

The England Under-21 stopper has been impressive on loan at Sheffield United again this season. The keeper has kept 10 clean sheets as part of the Premier League’s second meanest defense.

Henderson’s performances for the Blades have helped guide them to within two points of fifth-place United and a potential spot in the Champions League. He is one of the eight players loaned from one Premier League to another and whose contract runs out on 30th June.

Amid the coronavirus and the subsequent Project Restart, the season is now set to go beyond Henderson’s due contract dates.

The situation leaves Man United with a major decision to make. Do they agree to let Henderson extend with the Sheffield United? The dilemma could potentially prove hugely costly should Sheffield pip to a Champions League spot by Chris Wilder’s men.

The FA and EFL are in favor of loans being extended if players and temporary clubs agree on a deal. However, the Premier League staes the parent clubs must agree to an extension.

A number of fixtures will need to be played after 30th June and the expiry of existing loan deals leaves the Blades with a nervous wait over their NO.1

Should Manchester block the extension, it would be a huge blow to Sheffield’s hopes of achieving a remarkable qualification for European competition.

As such, the Blades will be hoping that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sanctions an extension which will allow Henderson to remain at Bramall Lane.

With David De Gea in no mood to step aside as United’s No.1, United are potentially looking to keep Henderson out on loan again next season with the Blades once again being an ideal spot.
