The former Ajax captain sets to be Juventus’s ultimate leader as he is expected to take over from veteran defenders. As Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonuccie enter the twilights of the career, De Ligt should therefore rise to the occasion.

The highly-rated defender reveals he is happy at the club and should he leave he will ask the club.

“I am very happy at Juve. I feel like a fish in water,” De Ligt revealed.

He added, “I feel good on the pitch and appreciated. Would they let me go? There are plenty of clubs that have money problems, but you should ask the club.”

“I don’t know. These [Barcelona rumors] make no sense now. That is not important to me and nobody has informed me about it,” he dismisses the transfer rumors.

Also, the Dutch admit that Juve’s season has been disastrous but good things came along, like winning Copa Italia.

“It was a tough season physically and mentally. A season with ups and downs,” Matthis admitted.

“I was out for three months and then come back and tested positive for COVID,” he added.

“If you had said three weeks ago: ‘we will win the Coppa Italia and we will make Champions League football, that would have been good,” he continued.

On the positive COVID test in January, the player said he has not taken the vaccine and has no plans to.

“I have not taken a vaccination, it is not mandatory,” the defender said.

He concluded, “I think you should be in charge of your own body. The risk of infection is always there. I try to come into contact with as few people as possible outside the Dutch national team.”
