Sevilla’s internationalization project

According to President José Castro, Sevilla are considering investing in a Mexican club as part of its internationalization project. Reports in Mexico were previously attributed to the Spanish club interest in Veracruz. Which was left without a professional team at the end of last year when the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz certificate was revoked from the Liga MX for financial matters. But a new team – Club Veracruzano de Futbol Tiburon – was officially formed in their place on Thursday. So they will become one of the founding members of the breakaway Liga de Belompie Mexicano. Which is due to begin in September and will operate independently of the Liga MX and the Mexican Football Federation.

The club officials are still studying this topic

While Castro did not identify any specific clubs that Sevilla are planning to invest in. He confirmed that such opportunities are being considered by Los Nervionenses. Potentially following the example of La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, which became part of the owners of the Liga MX side Atletico San Luis in 2017. “It is a project that I still can’t talk much about. I don’t have the data, but the truth is, we are open to every opportunity in Mexico and in some countries where there is an interesting project for our idea of internationalization,” El Desmarque quotes Castro as telling Multimedios Desportes.” It is a topic that we are studying, I am very ambitious, but I wouldn’t say I like to foresee things when they are not yet achieved and not signed.

We see it with kind eyes, and we know the level of Mexican football. It is one of the places where we have hopes, ideas, and sporting projects.

“This internationalization will continue not only in that area but also in others. Such as the subject of academies”. We opened an academy in New York, another in New Jersey, another in Miami. Still, we have a different idea to project from academies in South America, Central America, and I think it will be soon. So results in this sense will also begin to be observed. “Currently, Sevilla are in third place in La Liga, 11 points behind the leaders of Barcelona. However, they remain one point from the fifth place of Getafe in the Champions League qualification sports.
