Inter Milan have reached into an agreement with Manchester United on a loan deal to sign forward Alexis Sanchez. The player will join former teammate Romelu Lukaku at the Serie A.
The European transfer window closes on 2nd September. Inter Milan’s boss, Antonio Conte is keen to sign Alexis Sanchez before this time.
Sanchez will link up with ex-United striker Romelu Lukaku, who joined Serie A this summer for £74m.
The 10 months deal will cost Manchester United around £6m. However, Inter Milan did not agreed to buy Sanchez at the end of the loan deal.
The forward earns around £400,000 a week, a figure way outside of Inter’s current pay structure making him the United’s highest earner.
United may subsidize his salary as a part of a deal. Last week, Inter offered to pay £150,000 of Sanchez’s weekly wages but United wanted more.
Sanchez’s spell at Old Trafford was nothing short of a disaster, having left Emirates Stadium in January 2018 scoring just 5 times in 45 appearances.
He managed to score twice last season and only once in the Premier League. He should have stayed in the club, and would have predominantly played in the Europe League and Carabao Cup.
United legend Gary Neville had called for the club to ship out the Chile international at their earliest opportunity. “Sanchez has been an absolute disaster,” Neville said. “I have no idea what’s happening to him. There must be two of them.”
“The one that turned up in Manchester I have no idea who that is. He needs to get him out of the club. He needs to get a couple out this year.”
Manchester United fate
Sanchez’s departure will leave United with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and the 17-year-old Mason Greenwood as striking options for Ole Gunner Solskjaer.
United will play without Martial for a while after he suffered a thigh injury in their 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Manchester United manager wants to give more game time to the teenage forward Mason Greenwood who has made three substitute appearances this season.
