Manchester United isn’t interesting for Haaland

Andy Cole argued that Manchester United did not have the power to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. During the summer transfer window, The Red Devils had to make a move for Haaland when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly wanted to reunite with the Norwegian he worked with early in his career at Molde. However, several other top European clubs are interested in Haaland, and Cole does not think the Red Devils are the most attractive option for a player with the ambition to win major silverware. “To get these players to come, Haaland, for example, you have to entice them with something,” the former United striker told reporters. “You have to seduce them with the opportunity to win a silverware or being a year away from it. These guys will have other options, maybe Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, maybe Barcelona.”

The Norwegian is leading the UCL Golden Boot race

“If you play and you have a variation of all these clubs, where would United figure it out at this point? Even though I love Man United, I don’t think the club can now ride its name alone, especially when you’re trying to attract these players. It’s not like when I signed with United. We have to be very honest, and everyone wanted to go there. We are now talking about 2021. Does everyone want United now? I’m not sure everyone wants to know”. Haaland has enjoyed a remarkable rise since entering the 2019/20 Champions League with Red Bull Salzburg. The Austrian club exited the competition in the group stage that season. But the 20-year-old has scored eight goals in his six group stage fixtures, including one against Liverpool at Anfield.

Dortmund were impressed enough to invest $25 million in his talents in last year’s winter transfer window. And he has taken his career to even greater heights since then. Haaland has scored 43 goals in his first 44 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund, including 27 this season, with the striker currently leading the Champions League Golden Boot race. Solskjaer admitted last month that he closely monitors Haaland’s progress in Germany. But declined to look at whether United would look for him in their team later this year. Edinson Cavani, who’s 34, is currently the only natural centre-forward choice with Solskjaer. Haaland will be the perfect person to step in and fill that role in the long-term.
