Fans have scolded Granit Xhaka on social media after he was sent off for grabbing Burnley’s Ashley Westwood by the neck in the second half of Sunday’s defeat to Burnley.
A melee occurred on Sunday after Xhaka was booked for a challenge on Dwight McNeil. The Arsenal midfielder needlessly grabbed Westwood by the neck. Referee Graham Scott consulted with the VAR before sending the midfielder off.
On social media, fans have heavily criticized Xhaka for his needless red card which ended up proving very costly and Arsenal suffered their seventh defeat in 12 league games.
One supporter described Xhaka as “brainless”.
They wrote, “Xhaka. Brainless. Has to be a red. As if we’re not struggling enough, let’s add to our struggles by putting our hands on an opposition player’s neck. I’m getting really sick of this team”.
Another wrote, “Xhaka is an idiot absolute clown. Hope this was his last game”.
Another fan did not hesitate but to suggest that Xhaka shouldn’t be a Premier League player. The message read, “Please let that be the last time Xhaka posts for @Arsenal. There has to be a Championship side in need of a midfielder of his lack of talent”.
Another wrote, “XHAKA will NEVER play again for Arsenal. Idiot”.
Another supporter also wrote, “Xhaka is honestly the biggest liability. Blokes an idiot”.
One fan added, “Among the most selfish and stupid things I’ve seen from an Arsenal player there from Xhaka”.
Another individual went ahead and suggested that the only positive to take from proceeding is that Xhaka will now be suspended. They wrote, “both Bellerin and Xhaka suspended for Southampton. We might just win next week lads!”.
