Arthur Melo sends an emotional farewell to Barca

Arthur Melo made an emotional farewell to Barcelona as the Brazilian midfielder heads to new pastures with Juventus. The 24-year-old will contact the Serie A giants after moving in a €72 million deal in June and Miralem Pjanic, six years his senior, going in the opposite direction. Arthur’s departure from the Camp Nou has been a messy one. In April, he announced that he was only interested in staying at Barcelona. But, after being shown the door, refused to play for the club’s Champions League campaign after returning to Brazil. However, he may have been looking to fix some of the burnt bridges as he sets out to establish himself at Juventus. “Saying goodbye is always difficult, especially since I leave behind a place that has become my home,” Arthur said in a video on Twitter.

Barca was the team full of brilliant players

“An incredible city that will forever remain in my heart. Everyone accepted me as another Catalan, showed me a new culture, and helped me grow as a footballer and even more so as a person. I am leaving the team of brilliant players. I am fortunate to have played alongside them. So most of all, I am grateful to them for their support as good people with a huge heart. They showed me attention and respect that I will never forget. Today is the day to say goodbye, and I am taking everything with me in my heart forever”. Arthur Melo’s desire to stay at Barça became clear four months ago.  When he said: ‘There are always assumptions, but my idea is clear. The only option that interests me is to stay at Barcelona.’

“The big clubs’ perceived interest is always a flattering and positive sign. But my mind has been on playing for Barcelona for years”. His arrival at Juventus will undoubtedly provide new manager Andrea Pirlo with a welcome selection headache, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Aaron Ramsey, and Adrien Rabiot also available to perform a similar role.
