The League leaders, Inter Milan missed the chance to move three points clear at the top of Serie A. Antonio Conte’s side was tightly held by Atalanta.

Lautaro Martinez latched on to Romelu Lukaku’s pass to fire in his 17th goal of the season. He placed Inter Milan ahead after four minutes of play at the San Siro.

Atalanta on the other hand dominated in the second half. Robin Gosens converted to draw the visitors’ level on the 75th minute.

Samir Handanovic saved Luis Muriel’s late penalty to deny Atalanta victory.

Inter Milan extends their unbeaten run to 12 league games since their sole defeat of the season against Juventus in October.

However, the reigning champion of the Serie A can move top with victory over Roma this Sunday.

“Looking at the table, seeing up there, we might turn a blind eye to some issues. But the fact remains I pray we don’t have any players missing. Otherwise, there’s no cover.” Said Conte.

“Atalanta has been working with the same coach for four years. They brought in the players suited to that style of football.”

“We’ve just been together for six months. So being 11 points clear of them in the table is impressive.”

Martinez had seen an effort cleared off the line by Berat Djimsiti midway through the first half. Atalanta meanwhile went close to an equalizer through Rafael Toloi shortly before half-time.

Atalanta, the league’s top goal scorers after winning their previous two Serie A matches by a 5-0 scoreline deserved their equalizer. But Inter Milan captain, Handanovic produced a good save low to his right to prevent a late turnaround after Alessandro Bastoni conceded an 88th-minute spot-kick.

Elsewhere, third-placed Lazio celebrated its 120th anniversary by recording a 10th consecutive Serie A victory.

Ciro Immobile’s 82nd-minute winner against Napoli ensured Lazio stayed in touch with the leaders. They are four points behind Inter.
