The midfielder turned down a previous offer earlier this year that would have increased his release clause from its current €50 million.
Clubs are interested in Thomas from all over Europe
Atletico Madrid are not arranging a new deal offer for Thomas Partey shortly. The midfielder turned down a previous offer earlier this year that would have increased his release clause from its current €50 million. Before they could come up with a new offer, the coronavirus pandemic sucked out most of Atlético’s revenue. As a result, there will be no new contract offer when Atleti kicks off their 2020/21 campaign at the end of September, let alone a deal. In the meantime, Thomas is inspiring interest from all over Europe, with two clubs Arsenal and Juventus, making approaches to sign him. However, the Ghanaian does not intend to force a move from Atlético this summer and is just waiting for the club to develop a new and upgraded offer.
On his current deal, which ends in 2023, Thomas is one of the lowest-paid players in Simeone’s team. So he wants a deal that reflects his importance to the team. Both sides agreed to sit down and hold more talks once the Champions League concludes in August after Thomas rejected the first offer. After nearly a month on vacation, the 27-year-old is back in the preseason with most of his Atlético teammates. Clubs have until October 5 to enter with a transfer offer, from which neither Atletico nor Thomas can refuse.
