Bartomeu did nothing against the law

Barcelona were shocked on Monday morning when club offices were raided in connection with the Barcagate scandal in which former president Josep Maria Bartomeu arrested. However, Joan Gaspart is firm that Bartomeu did nothing wrong. He even compared the situation to that of another former president, Sandro Rosell, who was later acquitted. “I’m sure Bartomeu is not worried about this because he hasn’t done anything wrong,” Gaspart explained in an interview. “When you have clear morale, you can listen to what the police ask you, speak the truth and hope that you will return home. I am convinced, as a friend of his, that he did nothing against the law”. When asked about the details of the Barcagate scandal itself, the former president refused to get involved in a discussion about it, preferring instead to declare not knowing the issue.

Gaspart hopes Bartomeu’s case clears up ASAP

“I am not concerned or interested in these subjects, so I have not expanded my knowledge about it,” he added. “I know the same as you, I’m reading about it. So I hope it gets cleared up and I don’t call people to ask what happened, and it is not my style. I hope it clears up as soon as possible, nothing more”. Barcelona don’t seem to be able to stay out of the headlines for all the wrong reasons. And this is amplified now that the team is faltering on the field. If it’s not financial problems, then the club is embracing the scandal, but Gaspart is still convinced that the club’s name will eventually be cleared. “I do not follow these referee questions from the rest of the clubs in Spain,” he confirmed. “A few days ago, I saw economic questions from other clubs.”

“Over time, it always shows that things related to Barcelona are unfounded. As it was the case when people went after Sandro Rosell.”
