Gianluigi Buffon turned 42 in January. As you may know, the Italian legend is in his 18th season in Turin Juventus.
According to the latest reports, the current Serie A champion is preparing a 1-year contract for Gianluigi. Buffon is set to stay in Turin until the summer of 2020. But Italian club bosses seem to want to keep him for another year.
If Buffon signs a new contract, he will start his 19th season in Turin and turn 43 years old, which is an astonishing result. Gianluigi first came to Juve in 2001 from Parma.
In 2018, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain. His main goal was to win the Champions League, though he failed to do so with the Parisians and, unexpectedly, for most of the fans, he returned to Juventus last summer.
The main goal for him and the Turinians is to win the Champions League. After returning from Buffon, the other goalkeeper is Wojciech Szczesny.
In addition to Buffon, the Italian club wants to extend their contract with two other players. Giorgio Chiellini and Blaise Matuidi – these are the players with whom Juve will start talks soon. All three are reportedly close to extending the contract.
Buffon: “Why am I not leaving football?” – Gigi’s emotional response
Gianluigi Buffon recorded an interesting interview with JUVENTUS TV:
“At the age of 7, I became a fan of Juve, but in 1986 Trapattoni arrived at Inter. I was very hesitating about who I supported. Then at the age of 12, I became a fan of Genoa.
Return to Bianconeri? It made me very happy. I spent one good season in Paris. Even though I was not with the team, I had constant contact with my old teammates and leadership.
I don’t know what happens next year. But I know that I had almost decided to end my career 2 years ago. And now I’m here.
Why don’t I go out of football? Because I feel so good and respect the dreams I had when I was a little boy.” – Gigi said.
