Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has responded to his team’s coach Quique Setien. Even before the Coronavirus pandemic was announced, the Argentine suggested that the Catalans would have a hard time winning the Champions League this season.
Then Quique Setien did not agree with Messi and noted that Barcelona could win the tournament. The 32-year-old star explained his words, but remains of the same opinion:
“Maybe this break will be good for us. But first, we have to wait for the tournament to be renewed. That’s when we will understand at what level we are and what level we can reach.
I think our coach misunderstood what I wanted to say. Maybe I couldn’t express my opinion properly. I wanted to say that we could not win the Champions League with the level of the game, as we showed in the last matches before the break.
I do not doubt my team’s capabilities. And I am confident that we can win everything, but not at the level of the game we had in the last games.
Everyone has their own point of view, and we should respect it. My opinion is based on my experience in the Champions League. I was lucky to play in this tournament every year. So, I know that with the level we have shown, it is impossible to win, “Leo Messi was quoted as saying by Spanish media.
As you may know, in the 2019/20 season of the Champions League, Barcelona reached the 1/8 finals, where the first match against Napoli was played in a draw 1: 1. The return match has been postponed.
