Real Madrid used to be Lewandowski’s big dream

A former agent of Robert Lewandowski Cezary Kucharski has revealed the original career plan of the Bayern Munich star, claiming that he previously dreamed of joining Real Madrid. Lewandowski enjoyed an illustrious career in German football for 11 years, leaving Poland to join Borussia Dortmund in 2010. He moved to Bayern Munich four years later, where he has solidified his reputation as one of the best strikers in Europe, but his former agent says his main goal was once to play for the Spanish giants Real Madrid. Kucharski also says Lewandowski wanted to end his career in MLS before ultimately deciding to settle for the Allianz Arena for the long term. A former representative of the Bayern frontman told reporters: “When we brought Robert to Germany, the plan was really: Dortmund, Bayern, Spain, United States. And it’s no secret that Real Madrid used to be his big dream.”

The rumours are deliberately spread for the purpose of contract negotiations

“But Spanish clubs are currently not financially strong enough to afford him, and he has certainly realized in recent years that Bayern are the perfect club for him.” Lewandowski is being linked with a move from Bayern Munich once again heading towards the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid reportedly among a whole host of high-profile potential suitors. Nonetheless, Kucharski believes that the Poland international’s entourage will embrace those rumours to get a lucrative new expansion at Allianz Arena, with his current contract expiring in 2023. “Whatever decision Robert makes, it will be good,” he added. “But I know how this business works, and I can imagine that these rumours are deliberately spread for the purpose of contract negotiations. That is a general strategy.”

“Why would Lewandowski go anywhere else? He knows what he gets from Bayern. This club is always one of the top favourites for the Champions League title. And knowing him, he is still hungry for success and wants to attack again, next season, with the team and the new coach.” Lewandowski has appeared in 328 games in all competitions for Bayern Munich to date, winning 17 trophies along the way, including seven Bundesliga and Champions League titles. The experienced striker has 293 goals to his name, with 47 of them coming in the current campaign and contributing 65 assists to the club’s business.
