Chelsea is looking to raise additional transfer funds through player sales this summer and remains committed to unloading either Emerson Palmieri or Marcos Alonso.

What did Tuchel say

The two left-backs are increasingly marginalized as Ben Chilwell, who signed a £ 50m deal with Leicester last summer, is starting to impress Thomas Tuchel. At the beginning of Thomas Tuchel’s reign, Marcos drove England out of the XI starting team, but since then Ben Chilwell fought back and reclaimed his place. Emerson Palmieri has interest from Inter once again after it earlier saw a loan to Juve collapse on the deadline in the summer. The 26-year-old was praised by Thomas for his attitude and work in training, but this only translated into sporadic backup performances. His crowning moment came when he sealed a goal win in Chelsea’s last 16 Champions League win at home in front of Atlético Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel said in March that he is happy for him and that the guy suffers from his decisions all the time. He says they have three players per position with Chilwell, Palmieri and Alonso. He is one of the nicest guys you can imagine. He is always friendly with incredible qualities. It was necessary to give him a reward and give him a few minutes to thank him for his attitude. It’s not easy because he puts his personal situation aside and he plays his role, which is to give 100 percent, to be super professional and super good at the same time. Never let anyone down and was not in a bad mood. It is fantastic. He also said that he needed to find new rewards for him.

Will there be a move

While there is interest from Serie A’s biggest clubs, no relocation for Palmieri is likely to take place until after the European Championship, where it is likely to play a big role in Italy. The defender’s contract expires in 2022, but there is an opportunity to extend his deal for another year, which means that his contract will actually last until 2023, just like Marcos, leaving Chelsea with additional leverage in any summer negotiations. However, Marcos is 30 years old and has a significantly higher salary, making it difficult to sell to Chelsea.
