Chelsea has been busy in the market ahead of the new Premier League season and has added their fourth signing, Malang Sarr from ex-Nice.
Sarr is a France Under-21 international who made 119 appearances for Nice and scored 3 goals. the Frenchman became a free agent when his contract at Nice expired on June 30th. At Chelsea, he will spend the 2020/21 season out on loan.
The defender was a subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke, and an unnamed Italian club. Arsenal was as well understood to be tracking the youngster but opted not to offer him a deal as they settled for Gabriel Magalhaes.
At Chelsea, he can be deployed at center-back in a back four, the left side of a back three or at full-back.
Marina Granovskaia, Chelsea’s director said, “the opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss. He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea”.
“We are very happy to welcome him to the club today”.
It’s unfortunate Sarr will be Chelsea’s final import of the summer with a big-money move for Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz thought to be close to the final stages before he trades the Bundesliga for the Premier League.
Furthermore, Chelsea is also on the brink of announcing the acquisition of former PSG captain Thiago Silva with the veteran center-back on the verge of joining the London club.
On September 14th, Chelsea will begin their 2020/21 campaign with a trip to Brighton.
