Henderson still has the ambition to be the first-choice shot-stopper

Sheffield United chief Chris Wilder said that Dean Henderson still has the ambition to be the first-choice goalkeeper for both Manchester United and England. Henderson climbed through the youth ranks at Old Trafford until his senior squad ended in 2015. But is still awaiting his club debut in five years. The 23-year-old took credit spells at Stockport, Grimsby, and Shrewsbury before temporarily capturing Sheffield United ahead of the 2018-19 season. United tied the shot-stopper with a new two-year contract before he got to Bramall Lane. He quickly established himself as the Blades’ No.1 during their bid for promotion from the championship.

Henderson was awarded the Golden Glove

Chris’s side finished second in the table with the best defensive record in the division. Dean Henderson was awarded the Golden Glove after recording 21 blank sheets. England’s Under-21 was rewarded with a new two-year Old Trafford agreement before being sent back to the Blades and since then. It has seamlessly moved from second-tier English football to the Premier League. Henderson scored 27 out of 29 Blades in 2019–20. Raising ten blank sheets to help the club climb sixth in the standings and within sight of the Champions League qualifications. The only black mark on his track record was during the home game against Liverpool back in September. When he beat off the taming of Georginio Wijnaldum in the net to give visitors a 1-0 victory.

Wilder says that Henderson’s response to this error proves that he has what he needs to succeed at the highest level and that he didn’t refuse to assess United. “He wants to be an international goalkeeper, he wants to win 50-odd cups and play for Manchester United, the world’s huge, huge football club,” said Wilder. “He faces the need to overcome disappointment. His reaction says a lot about what he is and what our dressing room is like.”
