Josep Maria Bartomeu’s years have dragged the club’s name through the mud, and Laporta is campaigning on the platform to deliver that right. Laporta detailed his campaign on Friday and made it clear that he feels ready to spearhead the Catalan club’s recovery. “I decided that I would run in 2020 on the day the 2015 elections ended. As it was clear to me that I would do it again,” he said at the event. “I feel experienced enough to make decisions and I have high morals, and I know what Barcelona will need. We want to restore Barcelona’s self-esteem.”

The former president will bring Mateu Alemany at the club

“I don’t think about whether I’ll be the favourite to win this election, I’ll just focus on explaining my campaign well”. Xavi Hernandez has been a hot topic of coaching at Barcelona. Although Laporta declined to discuss his former midfielder and the likelihood of moving to the Camp Nou dugout. “We want to win and have a coach who coaches the team well,” he added. “Our team are very focused on what we want, but I don’t want to give names that will destabilize the situation. We cannot fall into the trap of revealing names, no matter what career a person has enjoyed at Barcelona”. Laporta went on to name several directors who he would like to bring with him but did not want to confirm whether Mateu Alemany would come as his sporting director.

“We will add more and more people to this great team,” Laporta said. “Alemany is a very respected person with experience, but I will keep this with me for now. I will announce a team of people during the campaign.”
