Eden Hazard had a tough season
Real Madrid assistant coach David Bettoni knows that time is of the essence for Eden Hazard as the Belgian tries to rediscover his best form in a Real Madrid jersey. Hazard scored a well-taken goal against Alaves in Los Blancos’ 4-1 win at Mendizorroza on Saturday night. Bettoni took over the team in the absence of Zinedine Zidane and decided to take Hazard off for Vinicius Junior with the remaining 30 minutes of the game, despite the fantastic performance of the former Chelsea striker. “I wanted Vinicius to go a little more direct with our play,” Bettoni explained afterwards. “Eden had a tough season and a half with injuries. Although we know patience is hard to come by at Real Madrid, we have to be patient with him. He’s getting back to the best with every game he plays.”
With Zidane watching from home and calling out to discuss substitutes during the match, Bettoni had an exciting experience as a team boss for the night. “It was a well-deserved victory,” the assistant coach said. “We had a ball, and we had good moves. We were very serious. I am delighted with the squad’s performance. For replacements, I wanted to know what the gaffer thinks because he is the boss. Zidane was very pleased with the game, with the performance. The coach told me to congratulate the players and nothing more. Now we have to think about the next game and take some rest.”
