David Luiz insists his decision to make a switch from Chelsea to Arsenal was based on the desire to experience and learn new things.
David Luiz joined Arsenal from Chelsea last summer in a deal worth €8.7 million. Remember, this was a transfer that was not very welcoming by either set of fans initially.
The Brazilian was a key player for Chelsea both before and after his spell at Paris St-Germain. However, Luiz became surplus to Frank Lampard’s requirements in his later years as the manager decided to place his faith on younger players.
During his stay at Stamford Bridge, Luiz won six major trophies, each for a year he spent. The youngster was aware that Arsenal was not in the best of shape before he decided to sign a two-year deal with the club. But, the desire to learn new things made him overlook the state of affairs.
“I was always very happy at Chelsea. And then, the understanding of knowing that my cycle was over, even though I thought it wasn’t going to end that way, in a quick decision. I decided to leave Chelsea before I even had the door open at Arsenal.” Said Luiz.
“I know that Arsenal wasn’t in a great moment. They had a weight on their defense. When I go there, I’ll have to pay the restaurant bill without having eaten.”
“But I’m going because I want something new for my life. I want to learn.” Added the Brazilian
