Bayern want to sign Upemecano

Former RB Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick believes the club defender Dayot Upamecano would be successful at Bayern Munich. The 22-year-old has been associated with many of the top European sides in recent years, and Liverpool and Bayern are now leaning towards making a move for him. The Reds are expected to sign a new defender in the January transfer window after seeing Virgil van Dijk expelled for months with a knee injury amid a growing defensive crisis. Bayern, meanwhile, are likely to lose David Alaba and Jerome Boateng at the end of the season and have to invest in their backline. France international Upamecano was recently supported to become a world-class star by current Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann and his former boss Rangnick thinks he is good enough for the European and German champions.

Ibrahim Konate is also at the same level as Upa

When asked if he thinks he will succeed at Bayern, Rangnick told reporters: “Why not?” Bayern know this play well, you can assume that. Physically, Bayern saw that in direct duels: no one will run away from him. He might still have one or two risky balls too many in a match, but he will undoubtedly learn in the next few years. I got to know Dayot and his family for many years. They not only make decisions that sound good to them in terms of his image. But they also make decisions based on a sense of what is best for the player himself.”

But Upamecano is not the only defender on the side of Nagelsmann, who can reach the top level according to Rangnick, as he singled out 21-year-old Ibrahim Konate as a star. “There are several others at Leipzig: I see Ibrahim Konate at the same level,” he said.

Bayern have signed promising defender Tanguy Nianzou from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window. And while the 18-year-old has yet to play for Hansi Flick’s side, Rangnick believes he will soon be a regular starter. “I have been in contact with the player and his parents for two years,” he added. “He is an exceptional talent and will be one of the best centre backs for the next ten years. If he stays healthy, he will be a regular in a year from now.”
