Experts believe that Juventus should release Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of the season.

Signing Portuguese was a mistake

Giovanni Gigli, former president of the Bianconeri, argues that signing the Portuguese was a costly mistake. The Serie A giants in the summer of 2018 put in place a stunning deal with Real Madrid, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winning from the record-setting post at the Santiago Bernabeu. Remarkable standards in front of goal have been maintained all along by the great in Italy, but the striker, now 36, has failed to deliver the Holy Grail of Champions League glory to Turin, and questions are being asked if he was ever the right addition.

Was Ronaldo the wrong choice?

When asked if Ronaldo was the wrong choice for Juve, Gigli said, “Absolutely, yes! I said that on his very first day in Juventus. He’s a great champion, but too expensive. Now it’s up to Juventus. They pay him € 1 million per goal. Juve President Andrea Agnelli must be self-critical, but he doesn’t have great staff. He added: “The club should release Ronaldo at the end of the season and the same goes for Fabio Paratici. Perhaps Agnelli suggested that he remove him from his post after that. It could be a scenario.”

The Portuguese international took on 121 appearances for Juve, with 92 goals recorded in those trips. He has 27 efforts to his name this season but has failed to help Andrea Pirlo’s side get past Porto in the last-16 Champions League.

Two Serie A title successes were taken, but the man with five European crowns on the most distinguished CVs was acquired to deliver long-awaited continental glory to Allianz Stadium.

These deadlines should last until the summer of 2022. The expansion was aimed at the evergreen superstar, with his personal aspirations burning brighter than ever, but some big decisions must be made regarding the direction Juve wants to go from that point. The four-year deal was awarded to the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star when he arrived in Italy.
