Chelsea are a pain in the neck

Ahead of his Champions League final in Porto on Saturday, Ferran Torres admits Chelsea have become a “pain in the neck” for Manchester City. Two rivals of the Premier League are preparing to battle it out for the grandest of European prizes. Chelsea have already claimed victories over Man City in league and FA Cup competition this season. However, Torres admitted that Thomas Tuchel’s side presents many challenges for Pep Guardiola’s treble chasers. “They are a pain in the neck, in a good way, as they always chase the ball,” Spanish forward Torres admitted. “They run a lot and want the ball. Tuchel’s men don’t just go for counter-attacks; they also want to get the ball off you, which deserves some credit.”

Tuchel’s men beat City twice

“Man City are a team that loves to have the ball, and sometimes it is challenging to take it from us, but they did a great job against us. They beat us twice. I mean, you never know in a Champions League final. We are one of the best teams in the world, so we have to try to win it all. We won the Premier League, which is a tough task – it takes a lot of work throughout the season to achieve it. But winning the Champions League final would be similar to the icing on the cake. City have never won, which is additional motivation, and we are going to work hard in this final sprint. And we are starting to feel very excited because, among other things, it is about enjoying it.”

Manchester City snatched Torres up from Valencia for a reported fee of €23 million in the summer of 2020. They handed a hot prospect a five-year contract and eased him into their fold amid fierce competition for places. Torres progressed rapidly during his time in England, however, with 13 goals recorded in all competitions – thus including a Premier League hat-trick against Newcastle.
