Spezia Calcio has won a Serie A trip for the first time. Twenty participants in the new season of the Italian Championship are known.

The return match of the playoff final in the Italian Serie B was held, which revealed the last, 20th participant of the upcoming Serie A season.

In the final, Vincenzo Italiano-trained Spezia and the legendary Alessandro Nesta’s Frosinone faced each other. In the first match of the two-match confrontation in Frosinone, Spezia won 1: 0. But in the return match, Nesta’s team managed to win with the same score.

According to the regulations, the trip to Serie A went to Spezia Calcio. That’s because the Ligurian club finished the regular season in a more advanced position (3rd) than Frosinone (8th).

Spezia was founded in 1906 and, despite its long existence, will play in Serie A for the first time. They became the 68th team to play in the top division of the Italian Football Championship. Noteworthy is the fact that Liguria (a region in the north of Italy) will have three teams in Serie A for the first time in a single season. Besides Spezia, Genoa, and Sampdoria are also competing in the Italian Championship.

The 2020/21 season of Serie A will start on September 19. The calendar is not known so far. But it is already known thar the following 20 teams will take part:

Juventus, Inter, Atalanta, Lazio, Roma, Milan, Napoli, Sassuolo, Verona, Fiorentina, Parma, Bologna, Udinese, Cagliari, Sampdoria, Torino, Genoa, Benevento, Crotone and Spezia.
