Anthony Martial was sent off for Manchester United in 6-1 defeat by Tottenham as the Frenchman dragged his hand across Erik Lamela’s face in reaction to elbow in the neck.

New footage has emerged of Rashford’s exchange with Maguire as he argues that is should be a red card for Lamela but is shut down. Unlikely, the defender bizarrely sides with the referee.

Rashford was seen leading the protest instead of Maguire. The absence of fans in the stadium made it easy to capture almost everything the players said.

Rashford asks: “Nothing for that elbow?”

Referee Anthony Taylor then walks towards Lamela and brandishes the yellow card.

Rashford continues: “why it’s the same?

Maguire then interjects: “it’s not violent conduct. They have checked”.

Rashford replies: “He’s elbowed him. They have checked it and it’s not”.

Clearly, there was a burning sense of injustice from Rashford that Lamela had remained on the pitch has been the instigator of the incident.

However, Maguire was content to believe the officials and VAR after they reviewed the footage.

Thereafter, Martial was seen trudging down the tunnel in the distance and United completely collapsed in the tout that followed. It was the Frenchman who won an early penalty converted by the Portuguese Fernandes. But from there, it was all downhill.

It only took seven minutes for Spurs to claim a lead with two goals. They went on to add four more after United were reduced to ten men.
