On Saturday, Arsenal announced that the 23-year-old Gabriel was self-isolating after a close contact tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, the defender missed Sunday’s win over Chelsea and will also be out for the games at Brighton on Tuesday and West Brom on Saturday.

“Gabriel has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating according to UK government and Premier League protocols”. Arsenal statement read.

“We will continue to monitor and support Gabriel and we are hoping he will be available again after our next two matches”.

Gabriel joined Arsenal in September and has emerged as a regular under Mikel Arteta. The defender has featured in 15 total matches across the Premier League and Europa League action scoring two goals in domestic play.

The Brazilian defender is not the only Arsenal star set to miss out on the club’s visit to Brighton on Tuesday. David Luiz and Willian Will will also be absent for the club’s final 2020 match.

As confirmed by Arsenal, David Luiz and Willian are still “feeling unwell” after missing out on the victory over Chelsea due to illness. The club has previously confirmed that the two recently tested negative or the virus and their situations will be closely monitored.

The Brazilian trio are joined on the absentee list by Thomas Partey who remains out with a left thigh injury.

“Thomas has progressed well since the injury in 6th December”. The club statement read.

“He has started to train and will continue with his daily assessments and monitoring”.
