Koke always comes to add, never to rest

It may have been a friendly game, but Spain’s encounter with the Netherlands on Wednesday night will always be extraordinary for Koke, who is the captain of his country upon returning to international duty after two years out. The Atlético Madrid midfielder talked about the 1-1 draw shortly after its conclusion, where he heaped praise on the team and mentioned his belief that the current Spanish side has a clear style of play. “It is a great honour for me to return to the national team. I always come here to add something. I am back, I wore the captain’s armband, and this is something that I will never forget. In these two years, I only thought about working hard and return. I always come to add, never to rest,” Koke said after the game.

Given the strength of the opponent, Koke feels that his side performed well and was happy with the way the team played. “We did not play against a team from my neighbourhood. We had a good game and we must continue. I see a team with a clear style and ability to dominate the games,” he stated. When asked about the difference in his role with Atlético and Spain, he mentioned that it depends on various factors. “It depends on where the ball is, on the position I’m playing. Luis Enrique was not going to ask me to do anything out of the ordinary,” he said.

Spain hasn’t entirely been shooting all cylinders in front of the goal lately, which has become a concern for some, but Koke has played such a performance. “It’s important to create chances if you don’t, then it’s useless. I’m sure the ball will eventually enter.”
