Jordi Farre is sure that the motion will win easily
One of Barcelona’s 2021 presidential candidates, Jordi Farre, believes that a vote of no confidence in current President Josep Maria Bartomeu will win easily and force him out of the club before the original election date. Farre led a vote of no confidence against Bartomeu after the summer when Lionel Messi publicly announced his desire to leave the club. “I am sure the motion will win easily,” Farre said in an interview. “I haven’t found a single person who was not in favour of it. If everything goes well, the whole process can be done in 40 days. So if that happens, it will take almost a year for the club to benefit”. Bartomeu’s leadership style has long been exposed to criticized by those associated with Barcelona. So it seems that the members have finally lost their patience.
Farre was still due to run for the 2021 election. But there is a chance his role in the movement could lend further extra support to his candidacy. “Before collecting the signatures for the petition, I went to sign a guarantee at the bank. So that the day after the elections we can govern the club,” added Farre. “I believe Bartomeu has found another way of not facing problems and just ignoring them. Another example of the contempt he has for the fans and the club itself. There is hope from some at the club that a radical change in direction at Barcelona could see Lionel Messi stay with Los Cules after his current contract expires in June 2021.
The truth is that he absolutely won’t stay unless the new president finds a way to convince him that the future is bright, a prospect he considered impossible under the tenure of Bartomeu or his acolytes.
