If Messi wants to honour Maradona, he should play for Napoli
Since his death, tribute has been pouring for Diego Maradona from all over the football world. For Kevin-Prince Boateng, however, the best praise for the Argentine would be Lionel Messi’s move to Napoli. The Monza forward discussed what he thought would be the best way to honour Maradona’s memory and suggested that his ex-Barcelona team-mate should join the club where Diego was making history. “Messi is going to end his contract at Barcelona, but how amazing would he be if he just called Napoli and said, ‘I will come?” Boateng told reporters. “They don’t give out No.10 jersey anymore, but I would love to honour Maradona’s No. 10 and would like to come and play one or two years at Napoli without thinking about money or nothing, just heart.”
Boateng thinks it would be like something out of the movie and that fans would love it. “It would be like in a movie,” Boateng continued. “He had to go to training by helicopter because people would eat him alive; they would be so happy. But just that story – ‘in honour of Maradona I will come and play for Napoli’ – what kind of story will it be for the world, not just football, for the world?” That would be a message; it will be history everywhere. I wish I were in Messi’s shoes and I want to be Messi. I would call the president of Napoli and would tell him.”
