Navas admits that Real Madrid didn’t fully believed in him

Paris Saint-Germain keeper Keylor Navas admitted that there were times when he did not feel the club’s full support in his days at Real Madrid. The Costa Rican’s final season at the club saw Thibaut Courtois come from Chelsea and fight for the No.1 jersey after years of speculation that another goalkeeper would be signed. “Yes, I feel the affection of everyone here in Paris. In Spain, I had the feeling that part of the club did not fully believe in me,” Keylor told reporters. “I will always be forever grateful to the Real Madrid fans for the unconditional support they gave me and for what they still show me today, even though I have changed teams. And my teammates at Real Madrid have always believed in me.”

The goalkeeper wants to give his best to win many trophies with PSG

“Here at PSG, things are a little different. Everyone believes in me, and I try to repay their trust in me in every game”. Keylor was regularly compared to Iker Casillas during his early years at Real Madrid, as the club did not part ways with their legendary No.1 for long. “When I arrived, I was not trying to prove that I was better than Casillas and that my football career would be more successful than him,” he explained. “I just tried to make the most of the opportunity given me to work hard with humility and do my best. And that’s also what I came to Paris to do: to give my best and win as many trophies as possible with my teammates, for the fans and my family.”

PSG reached the Champions League final last year, and Keylor believes he has put them in an excellent future position. “Thank God we had a wonderful experience during the entire final leg in Lisbon,” Keylor said. “In the end, we were unfortunate that we did not achieve our goal of winning the final, but I think we learned a lot from that. Now we are growing and want to reach another final and win, this time to win it. For some players to get this far was a new experience, and in this situation, it is normal that you do not know what you are facing. We’ve all gone through it now, and the team is more mature.”
