Noel Le Graet would like the World Cup winner (Mbappe) to go in search of a gold medal, and also pledged to sign a new contract at Prince Park.

Mbappe’s chance for Olympics?

The French Football Federation (FFF) is leaving the door open for Kilian Mbappé to play in the Olympics, but President Noel Le Graet admits he will find it difficult to fit the Tokyo gold medal race into an already hectic schedule. The Paris Saint-Germain star is chasing another Ligue 1 title at club level, while striving to help PSG end their long wait for Champions League glory. He also has a European championship to look forward to meeting France this summer, but has broadcast his desire to compete for his country in the Olympics.

Le Graet will meet Mbappe next week

Asked if Mbappe could play in the Olympics, Le Graet told Eurosport: “I have to see him in the coming days, we will talk about it together. But we should already welcome his attitude; see the boy who is so delighted proclaim his desire to participate in the Olympics with my country – I find it brilliant, very refreshing.

“Will he be able to go to Tokyo, between his calendar with PSG and the French national team with Euro? I think everything is a little utopian. Back in 2018, after winning the World Cup, Mbappe told RMC Sport: “I still have a lot to do. I want to achieve everything. I have yet to win the European Championship with France. I would also, why not, would like to compete at the Olympics.’

Any trips to Tokyo that might come amid a grueling domestic season and euro-duty might see Mbappe skip the start of the 2021-22 campaign at Princes Park. PSG would not be thrilled with this, but they are keen to keep their key person happy and can bow to his demands in the ongoing efforts to win a new contract.
