Sven Mislintat revealed that Borussia Dortmund had a chance to sign Mbappe for almost free in 2016.

Kylian quickly best talent

He became one of the most sought-after talents in European football after making his first-team debut for Monaco in December 2015. Towards the end of their debut season at Stade Louis II, a whole host of top clubs expressed interest in the Frenchman, with Mislintat now claiming that Dortmund were close to the front of the line. The former BVB scout said: “Kylian was free from accusation at a certain point and there was a lot of nagging. But we had no chance of winning that race.” He also said that if you could steal Kylian from Monaco for free at the time, it would certainly be a mega deal.

Kylian’s career path

Monaco managed to hold onto Kylian for the 2016-17 campaign, which proved to be memorable for the French outfit. Under the leadership of Leonardo Jardim, Monaco took the Ligue 1 crown by storm, advancing to the Champions League semi-finals, with Kylian scoring 26 goals in 44 games.

After losing his patriotic crown, Paris Saint-Germain went over to list Kylian in his books and successfully negotiated a €180 million (£153 m/$212 m) deal with Monaco, who saw him become the most expensive teenager in history. Kylian has taken his game to even greater heights since then, helping PSG win three consecutive Ligue 1 titles while winning the World Cup with France internationally.

Kylian continued to lead PSG this season, finding the grid 30 times in 36 appearances across all competitions. His stellar performances helped the club once again fight for domestic supremacy and advance to the Champions League quarter finals, where Mauricio Pochettino’s side is set to face Bayern Munich in a repeat of last season’s final. Kylian will return to action for PSG when they face Lille in the Ligue 1 clash on April 3rd.
