Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard has overseen 61 Blue games before a goalless draw with Sevilla in the Champions League without seeing a complete shutout on the pitch. Four days later, the same thing was happening again.

At a time Chelsea was leaking goals, clean sheets will come as a welcome boost. However, having heavily spent on attacking talent in this summer’s transfer window, more would have been expected of the forward line.

Something is not right and the balance at Chelsea is not good. When they score goals, they concede them too. But when they manage to keep it clean at the back, they struggle to find the net going forward.

Nonetheless, Chelsea’s new shot-stopper, Edouard Mendy has been of great help. When compared to Arrizabalaga who endured a terrible time at Stamford Bridge with several high-profile mistakes, Mendy has been between the sticks.

Mendy made a fine flying save later on to deny Rashford what would have been the winner at Old Trafford. And when asked about the save, Lampard issued what was translated to be a thinly-veiled dig at his former incumbent goalkeeper Arrizabalaga.

He responded, “yes. His performance was good. You rely on your goalkeepers in those moments in a tight game, not full of many chances. Rashford’s first chance was a mistake from us. One at the end was a moment of quality from him. He showed us what he is there for”.

“We brought him in for his quality. He showed great composure in the games he’s played already and with the saves today in a tight you rely on the moments”.
