Leeds United are set to complete their first signing since sealing their long-awaited return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.  Leeds are bringing on the Spain international, Moreno, to Elland Road for a club-record fee of around £30m.

The La Liga club published a statement confirming a deal in principle has been agreed with personal and medical terms to be finalized on Wednesday.

“Valencia CF has reached a preliminary agreement with Leeds United FC for the transfer of Rodrigo Moreno. At the expense of completing all the documentation and other formalities and passing the mandatory medical examinations”. Read the club statement.

“Valencia FC wants to thank Rodrigo Moreno for his commitment and effort over the last six seasons”.

“We wish him all the best in this new stage of his sports career at Leeds United”.

The Brazilian born ace came through the ranks at Rio de Janeiro based Flamengo before making a move to Spain and joined the youth academy at Celta Viga. Moreno, later on, made a move to Real Madrid at 18.

He made appearances in Real’s C and B teams before joining Benfica in 2010 where he scored 45 goals in 120 games and won the Portuguese title.

During his career with the Portuguese giants, he joined a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers. Here, he only managed one goal for the Trotters. He thereafter joined Valencia on loan before eventually making the move permanent.

Back in Spain, Moreno became Valencia’s, key frontman. He helped fire the club to the Copa del Rey in 2018/19 where he scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory against Barcelona.

The 29-year-old Moreno will boost Marcelo’s attacking option ahead of Leeds’ first Premier League game against the Champions Liverpool.
