The Reds have ended 2019 in the perfect position. They have completed the half-season unbeaten creating a 13-point gap with one game in hand. This has given Liverpool a strong base to fight for the EPL trophy.
With Mohamed Salah as the Liverpool player of the year, he has only failed to score against Manchester United, Swansea and Aston Villa. In general, Salah scored against 22 of 25 premier league opponents.
Interestingly, Jurgen Klopp’s squad has shown commitment, passion and dedication to their focus of winning the EPL. Out of the possible 60 points which can be achieved, Liverpool has managed to secure 58 points!

Klopp’s word for the squad

After the previous game against Sheffield United, the manager had the following views concerning the game and the season.
“It’s obviously good [to go unbeaten for a year] but the target was not to extend this [run], but to win the game. The best thing you can say when you play against Sheffield United is to keep the game not spectacular. We controlled the game.
“We played around their formation, played behind, in-between, broke the lines and had counter-attacks. All the things we want to have. The boys played sensationally.
“You saw these glimpses in the game where we were a bit sloppy. They wanted two or three situations in which they could score in. We needed that concentration and that was incredibly tough but the boys did so well. Nothing ends. We have to make sure we are ready again.
“I am really happy and really proud of the boys. We should not take things like this for granted. The way we controlled Sheffield United was exceptional. In possession we were incredible, we were calm but lively as well. The goals we scored were exceptional.”

What next for Liverpool

The second half of the season has just started. Liverpool has an advantage of 13 points to defend their leadership of the league. As far as they are the defending champions of the Uefa champions league, Liverpool should also focus on the English premier league trophy. Last year, they failed to win the premier league after Manchester City took it away with only one point.
The recent signing of Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg is a perfect strategy to make the squad firm. We expect to see a spectacular performance from the South Korean star in the EPL.
