The Premier League defending champions, Liverpool have released a statement on their bid to have fans return to Anfield in the near future.

Liverpool are still preparing for the potential return of fans to Anfield. Since the coronavirus outbreak, the defending champions have not played in front of their Anfield. The last time Reds fans set their feet at Anfield was in March in the club’s 3-2 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Just like the many other rivals, Liverpool has been figuring out ways to allow fans safely back inter stadium while still adhering to the Government’s social distancing guidelines.

The Merseyside’s have earmarked last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United for the return of 12,500 socially distanced fans. Although, the Government’s decision to shelve plans to allow spectators to view the elite sports events in person scuppered the scheme.

However, the Reds haven’t allowed the setback to delay their plans for the return of their loyal supporters.

Therefore, a club statement from the club read, “as part of the club’s ongoing preparations for the potential return of supporters to the stadium in the future, we would like to provide an update to fans on the current situations”.

“It was expected that the opening fixtures of the 2020/21 season would take place behind closed doors until at least October at the earliest with the likelihood that stadiums would then initially operate at reduced capacity in line with social distancing measures. As of the end of September, this plan was postponed due to increasing cases of COVID-19 nationally”.

“However, as the situation continues to evolve and remains subject to change, we are continuing to work hard to ensure that when the time is right for spectators to return, we are in the best possible position to welcome fans back to Anfield while ensuring a safe environment for everyone in attendance.

“As such, we are currently working on a number of new processes and systems, which will be introduced in the coming weeks, that will enable us to be properly prepared to welcome fans back to Anfield as safely and efficiently as possible when government guidelines allow”.

“We will provide more information on this and will be contacting fans regarding these upcoming changes in due course.

“We will continue to keep supporters updated with all 2020-21 season developments and we thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Liverpool will be back in action on Saturday evening, welcoming the in-form West Ham to the Anfield”.
