Liverpool have been very close to the English Championship after a 30-year hiatus. But, as you know, due to the spread of Coronavirus, the Premier League has been temporarily suspended.

According to The Mirror, England had already planned the Championship rewarding of Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s team needed to win two matches to become inaccessible to the nearest follower and form the title before the Championship.

If Liverpool were to beat Everton in the Merseyside derby and then win the Crystal Palace at Enfield, they would have won the English Championship. The awards ceremony was also scheduled for this meeting on Saturday, March 21.

In addition to raising the title at Enfield, a victory was planned for the city. However, everything has been delayed due to the spread of Coronavirus.

Liverpool will have to celebrate in front of empty tribunes

The winning team must usually be awarded the Premier League cup at the last home match of the Championship. But in this case, it seems that with the agreement of the English Football Federation, Liverpool would have prematurely lifted the title.

Liverpool are ahead of Manchester City by 25 points. The PL matches are scheduled to resume on April 30. But England are due to meet with the Premier League leaders this week, and the date may be postponed.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has recently commented about the situation. He said that if the season is not resumed by the end of June, it may not be extended. So, it will automatically be declared failed.

There is another option to renew the Championship – playing on empty stadiums. They may decide to hold the matches behind closed doors. So, when Liverpool manage to win the PL, then they will have to celebrate the title in front of empty tribunes.
