Ancelotti is the best tactician for Digne

Carlo Ancelotti has ended his project at Everton to return to Real Madrid. One player who had nothing but positive words to say about the Italian coach is Lucas Digne. The Everton left-back admitted that he was thoroughly impressed by Ancelotti as a manager. “He’s the best tactician,” Digne said of Ancelotti in an interview. “He analyzes opponents very well, and he reads games very well. And tries to adapt to the players he has at his disposal every weekend. He can change his system during a match at the snap of a finger. And above all, he knows perfectly well how to explain to the players what he wants. His message comes across very easily.”

Deschamps and Ancelotti have some common qualities

“Ancelotti is a good person and knows how to convey his messages with humour. For example, during COVID, he did not want us to have parties. He told us: ‘If you go to a party, guys, invite me so I can keep an eye on you.'” Two coaches stand out for Digne when asked which coaches have left the most significant mark on him. “They all gave me something. It’s difficult,” he learned. “Ancelotti for sure is up there. Luis Enrique too. Ancelotti made me progress, especially in defence. Maybe I was attacking more when I started. I did not lose that, but now I also try to defend well.” Digne believes there are some common qualities between Ancelotti and French boss Didier Deschamps, as both are good at getting their message across.

“I have had excellent coaches when it comes to speeches, whether it was Deschamps or Ancelotti, for example,” he added. “They always manage to motivate you. For example, negotiations with Deschamps usually last a quarter of an hour. Usually, it is simple but effective. I will always remember the conversation he gave before the final of Euro 2016. He had made a little video with our families – it was unforgettable.”
