Ocampos turned to speculation about his future at Sevilla amid ties with Liverpool and Leeds United.

I focus on the present

Lucas has established itself as one of the most consistent performers in the La Liga since joining Sevilla from Marseille in July 2019. The 26-year-old’s impressive displays did not go unnoticed, though it reported that two Premier League clubs are now lining up summer entries for the winger, but has no plans to turn his back on Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.  “I focus on the present and don’t look further ahead at what I can’t control,” he said. He also noted that he loves this city, is very happy here and grateful to the club.

Lucas received a five-year deal when he joined Sevilla, which immediately reaped the benefits of their investment during his debut 2019-20 campaign. The Argentine played a key role in the club’s run to the fourth-placed league finish and Europa League glory, scoring 17 goals in 44 games. Lucas was not as prolific as the term, but its performance remained as strong as Julen Lopetegui’s parties aiming for greater success on both the domestic and European front. The former Marseille star has contributed seven goals and four assists to Sevilla’s so far and will have a chance to pick up the score when they host La Liga leaders Atlético Madrid on Sunday.

What the future holds for Ocampos

Lucas has yet to spend more than three years on its contract with Sevilla, which reportedly includes a €60m (£51m / $71m) release clause. Clubs such as Liverpool and Leeds may find it difficult to obtain such a fee amid the financial uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic, with a high likelihood that they will have to turn to alternative targets. Sevilla is also leaning towards linking Lucas to fresh terms to shield himself from potential nagging, and his recent comments suggest he has settled at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium for now.
