The 1/16 final matches of the Europa League were held yesterday. Manchester United hosted Brugge and beat their rival. On the other hand, Arsenal have suffered a sensational defeat on their own pitch.

Finally, Four Portuguese teams have been eliminated from the Europa League. Sevilla survived, but for Ajax, the 2-1 win was not enough.

Manchester United vs. Brugge

As you may know, the first match of these teams took place in Belgium and ended in a 1: 1 draw. In the second leg, the Red Devils took advantage and defeated the rival 5: 0.

The Belgians’ rebound came in the 27th minute when Brugge’s defender somehow tried to become a goalkeeper and go for a goal in the penalty area and, with the ball in his hand, repelled the ball. Accordingly, Manchester United gained the first penalty.

Fernandes scored from the penalty spot. Four more goals followed that opener in the visitors’ net. The best player was Freddie, who was outstanding for his assist and a double. McTominay, Ighalo, and Bruno Fernandes scored one goal each.

Ajax vs. Getafe

The Ajax-Getafe confrontation was also of great interest. In the first match, the Spaniards defeated the rival 2: 0 and had a great advantage, but it was expected that the Amsterdamers would fight to the end to achieve a comeback.

And they fought, but they won only 2: 1, which was not enough.

Just 5 minutes after the game started, Getafe went ahead thanks to Mata’s goal, and it became clear that Ajax would need a miracle to survive. No miracle happened, so now Getafe is in the next phase.

Arsenal vs. Olympiacos

The surprising result was in London, where Arsenal lost to Olympiacos, and the Greek team went to the next stage. The English had won 1: 0 in the first leg and were failing in London with the same score until, in additional time, Aubameyang equalized the score.

However, at the 120th minute, the Greeks again scored and won the next stage in a dramatic duel.

Benfica vs Shakhtar Donetsk; Copenhagen vs Celtic; Sevilla vs Cluj;

An exciting match was held in Lisbon, where Benfica was beating  Donetsk 3: 1, but finally, the game ended 3: 3. In Ukraine, Shakhtar had won 2: 1, so they will continue fighting in the 1/8 final.

Copenhagen beat the Celtic 3-1 to advance. Inter have beaten Ludogorets 2: 1 on an empty podium without any problems. Sevilla played for Cluj 0: 0 and went on thanks to their goal in the first leg. However, Romanians scored in Spain at the last minute, and the goal was canceled after the video.
