Manchester United midfielder Fred called Messi out of the world his toughest challenger, with Barcelona superstar billing him as a genius, while Telles considers fellow Brazilian Neymar to be the best he has faced.

What Fred and Alex said

Two South American players on Old Trafford have lined up against some of the best talent on the planet during their careers. Both, however, have had little trouble siphoning off the cream of the crop, with the obvious qualities that two of the scariest forwards around have, making it easier for their kit prowess to be recognizable.

Taking part in a Q&A session on the official United website, Fred and Alex were asked to choose their worst enemies. Fred said that Neymar is a great player and it’s so hard to celebrate. He thinks Lionel Messi was the toughest player he came up against; he is out of the world, he is a genius. Fred says he is the best in the world, a great player, and he thinks he is the toughest opponent he has played against. Alex Telles added that Neymar was one of the toughest players to note, given his quality, speed and intelligence both with the national team and when we played against PSG.

Recall the history against Barca

United paired with Barcelona in the Champions League 2018-19 quarterfinals. Fred played a full 90 minutes in both legs of this heavyweight encounter, while the Blaugrana ran out 4-0 overall winners. Lionel was the star of the show in the second of these gadgets, with a gracious Argentinean packaging at Camp Nou when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side slipped out of Europe.

The Red Devils left-back lined up against his fellow countryman in this season’s Champions League group stage. United got the best of PSG at the Parc des Princes as Alex made his rival bow for the club in a 2-1 win, but Neymar and Co got their revenge on Old Trafford in a convincing 3-1 success.
