Martin Odegaard is the future captain’s material at Arsenal, says Mohamed Elneny, while the fellow midfielder at Emirates Stadium makes no secret of his desire to see a permanent deal for the Norwegian playmaker.

The Gunners took talented 22-year-old on loan from Los Blancos

Odegaard has made a positive impression on Emirates Stadium and is believed to boast the potential to make him a field leader in north London if a long-term deal with Blancos can be struck. Elneny spoke of the hot prospect that first burst onto the scene as a gifted 15-year-old: “You always see him as coaching players, outside the dressing room. “He talks all the time about the game and what we’re going to do. He has the personality to be the captain.

There is no purchase option in the agreement that took Odegaard to England from Madrid. He has, however, struggled to achieve the desired effect in Spain after looking for first-team opportunities that are hard to find in Santiago Bernabeu. Odegaard hinted that the extended stay at Arsenal could be put in place as he thoroughly enjoys his time with Mikel Arteta. Elneny hopes the deal will be explored, adding when asked if those at the Gunners’ camp would like to see Norway’s international stint: “We want, we want, we want.”

Odegaard is a captain of Norway

It became clear to her that he would act as captain with his country. He will have the ambition to take on a similar role at the club level at some point in the future. For now, however, his overall focus is on ending the current campaign as positively as possible. The finish of the top four appears to be outside of Arsenal in the Premier League as they sit 10 points off the pace, but progress has been made to the Europa League quarter finals. Major Silverware is thus still up for grabs, with Odegaard keen to help, which is why he is building on two goals he has contributed 11 appearances to the Gunners cause.
