Manchester United will be on Saturday afternoon welcome Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, for their third match of the 2019/20 campaigns. Don’t miss out.
Ole Gunner Solskjaer is looking forward to making two winnings out of two this season having beaten Chelsea 4-0 in the opening day. In Palace, Roy Hodgson hopes to register their first goal of 2019/20 having drawn blank against Everton and Sheffield United.
United has been encouraged to start in the new season with ole Gunner having had a summer to implement his ideas at Old Trafford. The 4-0 opening day victory against Chelsea confounded expectations.
Paul Pogba’s penalty could have seen United come through two difficult early tests unscathed. Unfortunately, Rui Patricio was on hand to save and ensure his Wolverhampton Wanderers side came out with a 1-1 draw.
Wolves favor a counter-attacking approach, therefore, forcing Solskjaer’s side to try and break them down. United, with Anthony Martial’s goal gave them a deserving half time lead. They were pegged back by Ruben Neves’ brilliant strike from 25 yards before Pogba’s penalty miss.
Crystal Palace’s preparation for the new season was dogged by speculations surrounding the future of their attacker Wilfred Zaha.
Zaha’s presence has been unable to spark the Eagles into his life which is going forward with Roy Hodgson’s side yet to score this season. Most worryingly for Palace, they haven’t looked like scoring.
Hodgson has been setting his side up in a 4-4-2 system. Perhaps for Palace, the best that can be hoped for is a repeat of the gritty 0-0 draw that they carved out at Old Trafford last season.
United without the long-term absentee Eric Bailly, who picked up a serious knee injury in pre-season against Tottenham Hotspur in July. Alexis Sanchez will not also be featured. Timothy Fosu-Mensah misses out with a knee injury on his own.
Palace is again without thte first choice Centre-backs James Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho. Tomkins has a long-term groin injury while Sakho is struggling with a knee problem. The Eagles are likely to deploy Martin Kelly and Scott Dann as their defensive partnership although Veteran Gary could be in line for a debut.
Head to Head
Crystal Palace ground out a dogged 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in what was to be one of Jose Mourinho’s final matches. When the two sides faced each other again in the Late February, Solskjaer was in charge of the Red Devils. A goal from Romelu Lukaku helped the club in a 3-1 victory at the end.
Crystal Palace has still never beaten Manchester United in a Premier League match.
