Edouard Mendy reckons Chelsea will see the best of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner from next season after the German forwards survived test debut campaigns at Stamford Bridge.

Best version of Kai and Timo

Much was expected of the two big bucks when they made their way to west London from Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020, but neither lived up to its price tag. There were flashes of brilliance and strange reasons for optimism, but it could be that the consistency turns out to be elusive until 2021-22.

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy told the club’s official website that they are really good players. They are young players and this is the first time they have moved to another country. He thinks it took them a couple of months to adjust and understand the Premier League, but he sees them every day and knows how good they are. He is happy for them. They showed their qualities on the pitch. Next season, he says, they will see 100 percent the best of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner. Even this year they are enjoying their good performance and that they are important to them.

Kai, who Thomas Tuchel has been using as a false nine over the past weeks, has packed the brace as Chelsea saw Fulham 2-0 rivals in their last Premier League run. Timo has combined one of these efforts and is one of only five top English players to double goals and assists this season. The 24-year-old has found a target on 11 occasions, while Havertz now has eight efforts to his name.

They did it

Kai and Timo will hope to play it out again when Chelsea hosts Real Madrid on Wednesday in the return leg of their Champions League semi-final. This competition is 1-1 combined, with Thomas’ sides already FA Cup finalists and the top four contenders ready to switch their focus back to continental competition. Edouard also said it wasn’t easy to switch between two Premier League games with a Premier League match in the middle, but he said they did it.
