Mikel Arteta said Arsenal’s overhaul must be ruthless as one of the most disappointing seasons in the club’s newest memory draws to a close.

This is not the first year

Arsenal dropped out of the Europa League Villarreal on Thursday, making it to the semi-finals to almost guarantee the Gunners will miss Europe entirely next season. A win in the Europa League would give Arsenal a spot in next season’s Champions League, but with ninth place in the Premier League, European football is now out of reach. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said about the club’s project that this is not the first year. Mikel thinks that the project has its milestones and that today they are in a much better position to be where they want to be very soon if they do what they have to do. according to Mikel, they must be ruthless.

Arteta also said that they cannot cry and stick to what they don’t have and must see what they have and maximize it in order to get what they want and want to share the pain everyone is experiencing. The fans have been incredible with the team and incredible to him ever since he arrived and according to Mikel must show his appreciation first and foremost.

What will happen next?

Arsenal finished eighth in the Premier League last season, the lowest finish since 1995, and they are in ninth this season with just four games left. Avoiding the miracle reversal, Arsenal will now surely miss the European qualifier for the first time in 25 years. He left Arteta under tremendous pressure as he neared the end of his first full season. Although Arsenal won the FA Cup last season, they have taken a big step back that deadline and the Spaniard will have to improve quickly to stay in his job.
