Gary Neville has not hesitated to defend his old club and home town after wife to former Manchester United player, Angel Di Maria bashes Manchester United.

PSG winger, Angel Di Maria’s wife revealed she was always against Di Maria’s move to Manchester United while recalling her unpleasant experience in England.

Di Maria swapped Real Madrid for Manchester United as he became the then most expensive signed made by a British club in 2014.

A lot was expected from Di Maria who had arrived from helping Los Blancos land a Champions League trophy. On his arrival, Manchester United made their expectations known by handing him the No.7 jersey, previously won by the likes of David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Cantona.

Di Maria’s stay in Old Trafford, however, was short-lived. The Argentine failed to settle in his new team. Lack of consistency saw him lose his place in the line-up. Eventually, he was shipped to Paris St-Germain a year later.

Apart from his poor form, Di Maria’s off-pitch life was not enjoyable either. The winger’s wife, on the Spanish morning show, spoke of her horrible experience in England.

She began, “I remember Angel coming up and saying, ‘an offer from Manchester United has come in’. I told him not a chance he could go on his own but a year later, we were in England and it was horrible.”

“I didn’t like anything about it. Not a thing. The women are all skinny, prim and proper weird. You’re walking down the street and you don’t know if they are going to kill you or what. The food’s disgusting.”

Gary Neville hits back

This has not sat well with anyone at United. More so to the club legend. Lifelong fan and die-hard Gary Neville.

Neville hit back and said, “All I would say is, we hear these stories from time to time where a player has played like a drain as Di Maria did at Manchester United. He was awful.”

“He was never interested in day one. What he needs to do is look across the road at Sergio Aguero, his Argentinian compatriot. Or Pablo Zabaleta who has done alright in Manchester and haven’t been in a rush to leave.”

“I will defend my city to the hilt.”

“It’s really no wonder he never performed to his best if he was unhappy at the move before he even made it. No surprise, he joins the ominous list of “Worst ever Signings” for Manchester United.
