Paul Pogba has revealed the reasons behind the eye-catching addition of a sleeve over the left arm he wore during the 2020-21 campaign for Man Utd.

Ease a discomfort

The French International performed with the accessory for most of the season, during which time it rediscovered the form at Old Trafford. Having reignited his talents at the club level, the sleeve has become something of a marker for the midfielder, but why is he wearing one in the first place?

Paul Pogba explained that he began wearing a squeeze sleeve, also known as a tubular support band, to ease the discomfort he was experiencing in his elbows. A squeeze sleeve or bandage provides additional support to the elbow joint, increasing weakness that can contribute to pain. Indeed, Paul actually wore a sleeve on both arms, first suffering pain in his right elbow before it developed in his left elbow.

The Frenchman told the club’s official website that it started with pain, he had pain in his left elbow. It actually started with his right elbow, so he put it on the right, and he had the same problem with his left, so he started playing with that to keep warm instead of a strap. His elbow is tight. He played with it, and it’s just natural now, just for safety. Paul Pogba wore an arm sleeve when playing for Man Utd and also internationally when he represented France. Such bandages are not uncommon in sports, although it is somewhat unusual for a footballer to play sports on their hands – these are usually leg joints such as knees and ankles that require support.

The player will continue wearing the sleeve

When asked if the compression sleeve would become a fixed part of his field garment, Paul Pogba indicated that he intends to continue wearing it for the foreseeable future.
