Wednesday’s Premier League match at Tottenham Hotspurs is in doubt as a result of new positive coronavirus cases at the West London club.
Tottenham vs Fulham fixture is due to kick-off at 18:00 GMT at Spurs Stadium. And, last night, Fulham were in talks with the Premier League over whether their fixture can go ahead following a Covid-19 outbreak at the West London club. Also, according to a report detailed in the Athletic, the situation places the fixture in doubt.
It is said that Fulham’s manager, Scott Parker missed Fulham’s Boxing day clash with Southampton. This after he was forced to self-isolate following an individual in his household testing positive for the virus. However, the 40-year-old coach insists he returned a negative result over the weekend in order to return to training on Monday.
On Monday, Manchester City Premier League fixture at Everton was also postponed four hours before kick-off because of an outbreak of Coronavirus at City. To Everton, the club said they would request for “full disclosure” of information City Provided to the Premier League that led to match postponement.
Also, the Newcastle United match at Aston Villa scheduled for 4th December was postponed following a “significant increase” in cases at the Magpie’s training ground.
Premier League Covid-19 Test Program
The Premier League’s latest round of coronavirus testing across the period of 21-27 December has recorded 18 positive tests. This is the highest figure since Project Restart in June. Meanwhile, there are considerations to possibly impose a short two-week “circuit breaker” in top-flight and EFL fixtures to help ease the spread of the virus.
A measure that has the backing of West Brom manager Sam Allardyce who was asked for his thoughts on Tuesday night in the wake of their 5-0 defeat to Leeds.
“Everyone’s safety is more important than anything else,” he said.
“When I listen to the news the variant virus transmits quicker than the original virus [so] we can only do the right thing which has a circuit break.
“I am 66 years old and the last thing I want to do is catch COVID-19. I’m very concerned for myself and football in general. If that’s what needs to be done, we need to do it.
“We had one positive this week and it seems to be creeping around no matter how hard we try.”
