Paris Saint Germain Sporting Director Leonardo claims Mauricio Pochettino has brought an essential value the club needed.
Pochettino replaced the sacked Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel in January, taking over a Champions League final team. Despite the tough task he had, Leonardo insists he has brought essential values.
Responding to the question, ‘What Pochettino has brought since his appointment’ Leonardo answered, “A lot a lot!”
“I think it was not easy for him. It happened in January; it’s always difficult,” he added.
“He brought his tranquility, his humility. Since his arrival, these have been essential values because by joining a team that made it to the Champions League final last season, you have to have the patience to understand everything,” Leonardo explained.
“Slowly, he managed to combine these things with his ideas. The group understood this well. If you don’t have everything we talked about there, you won’t win against Bayern, nor Saint-Étienne.
“These were matches that smiled on us at the last minute, with something that worked in our favor. It’s nice to see this solidity. Now it’s up to us to capitalize on these last matches, which decide a bit of everything,” Leonardo analyzed.
Also, Leonardo discusses Kylian Mbappe’s future. He points out that there’s no update on the striker, claims he still has a year left on his deal.
Mbappe has been on Real Madrid’s radar but Leonardo is optimistic the French international will stay.
“He still has a year of his contract, so it is not the end,” Leonardo said.
“The moment to make a decision will come, but today it is not important,” he stated.
“We are optimistic and we have no reason not to be, because of what we have done,” he added.
PSG sets to clash with English side Manchester City in the Champions League semifinals. However, they have been hit hard with a possible Mbappe injury after he limped off the pitch against Metz.
